Kidness Kids Field Trip to Local Non-Profit Organizations

Kindness Kids at GoodwillSaturday, March 14th

Report by Teresa M.

When the United Methodist Kindness Kids went on a field trip to Salvation Army, Helping Hands, and Goodwill we each wrote a report on a place. My place is Goodwill.

Goodwill has helped the community for over 10 years by providing jobs, recycling, and giving reasonably priced clothing. When we got there we talked to Angel the manager who told us that Goodwill recycles shoes, ripped or stained clothes and other products. Also, Goodwill is a green company. Other businesses benefit off of Goodwill because Goodwill will train people for jobs with computers or such.

Goodwills are in a lot of locations such as Wooster, Ashland, Millersburg, Orrville, and of course Loudonville. In 2008, Goodwill served 1,233 individuals, placed 148 people in competitive employment, and recycled 3,140,273 pounds of materials. Goodwill was discovered by Reverend Helms. Only 9 people work at the
Goodwill in Loudonville. Also, the fact that it is a non-profit organization is amazing. Lastly, every Goodwill has a region no big corporation that they all run under. To find out more please go to www.woostergoodwill.org.
In conclusion, stop by sometime you might find some really good bargains.
SALVATION ARMY
On Saturday, March 14th the Kindness Kids went to the Salvation Army at the Methodist Church.  We talked to retired Pastor Pat Reiter because she is in charge of our local Salvation Army.  She has been doing it for 20 years.  There is only 1 other person that works there.

The Salvation Army was started in the 1800s in England by Major Booth.  Today the Salvation Army helps to feed the homeless, give food, shelter, and clothing to victims of fires, tornadoes, and floods.  Their motto is "soup, soap, and salvation."
In Loudonville, they help 100 to 125 families a year.  They will help with utility bills once per year.  They are easily seen at Christmas time when up to 120 volunteers ring the bell for the famous red kettle.
If you need to contact them, you can call 419-908-8889.
